Chief executive officer

Michael Huffman

Mike has nearly two decades of experience in the construction management industry. His expertise is wide, ranging from preparing budgets and forecasts for owners, cost estimating, quality assurance, and labor management, to job site safety and contract administration.  In particular, his knowledge of healthcare construction is deep, and clients nearly always come back for repeat business due to his knowledge and can-do attitude of getting things done right.

Mike graduated from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, with a Bachelor degree in Business and Management, while leading the varsity water polo team as captain and competitively swimming on the water team. Mike moved to Austin, Texas in 2004, first working for a general contractor, and then spent six years working directly for a large hospital network. His day-to-day experience in managing construction within active hospitals has given him a unique skill set with a keen understanding of construction within a patient care environment.  Mike’s philosophy is to do what he says he's going to do.  At the end of the day, he wants his clients to be completely satisfied, and he’s brought together a dream team at Driftwood Commercial to operate using that exact same philosophy. 

 

Experience

  • Multi-phase critical area renovations, including ICU's, NICU’s, L&D, OR, patient floors

  • Worked as an in-house hospital construction manager; partnered with directors of various patient areas to coordinate room downtimes and utility shut-downs to ensure patient safety of the highest quality and patient care went undisturbed

  • Hybrid operating rooms, electrophysiology labs, interventional radiology labs, X-ray rooms, gamma / cyber knife rooms

  • Equipment change-outs (cath lab, EP lab, Hybrid OR)

Andrew O’Neil

Andrew brings to Driftwood nearly 20 years of commercial construction, real estate, and development expertise. An alumnus of St. Edward’s University, Andrew is well-known in the Austin community for the way he builds and maintains long-lasting relationships with his clients. Andrew’s creativity and sense of humor contribute to his ability to run multiple projects simultaneously, all the while keeping his clients informed. He has just the right balance of experience, efficiency, and energy to bring customers back time and time again. Once you have the chance to work with him, you’ll see why he’s an All Star on the Driftwood team.

Experience

  • Multiple awards and recognitions throughout his proud military career, which included serving in the armed forces for 11 years and as an Infantry Officer with the Texas National Guard

Director of Project management

Tom Polkinghorn

Tom has been in the construction industry for over 25 years, and it shows every time he’s on a job site.  Coming from a family with background in the construction and architectural industries, Tom shines as project lead.  Tom received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas State University and adding to that his carefully developed skillset in the construction world, clients can rest assured that Tom will make sure their projects run smoothly.  The formula of his experience in healthcare construction being nearly unmatched, plus his excellent communication skills, make him a one-of-a-kind project manager at Driftwood.

  • Completed over 200 new construction and renovation projects

  • Specialized knowledge of surgery center construction and renovation, including ADA upgrades

  • Experience running multiple interior hospital renovations simultaneously

Director of finance & administration 

Erin Morgan, CPA

Erin is a dynamic and resourceful accounting and administrative professional who brings to Driftwood more than 13 years of experience in financial reporting, analysis and review, budgeting, human resources management, and process improvement.  After graduating from UT Austin with her Master of Professional Accounting degree and earning her CPA license, she spent significant time in the healthcare, public, and nonprofit industries, strengthening her portfolio of diverse professional experience.  As Driftwood’s Director of Finance & Administration, she oversees all financial reporting, employee recruitment and onboarding, and takes an innovative approach in partnering with Driftwood’s staff and clients to provide the best possible service and results.

Project Manager

Brian Bales

 
 

Brian brings to Driftwood Commercial a great attitude and an uncompromising ability to thrive in the fast-paced world of commercial construction.  His degree in mechanical engineering, along with his experience in managing subcontractors, preparing proposals and bids for review, and tracking actuals compared to budget, make him a valued Project Manager at Driftwood Commercial.  His willingness to do what it takes to make his customers happy is sure to bring clients back time and time again.

Josh Finley

Josh is a crucial member of the Driftwood team, bringing the type of work ethic and dedication that Driftwood is lucky to have! Josh is a graduate of Texas State, and is currently pursuing his MBA. Josh spent 4 years as a Combat Medic and Supervisor for the US Army, and has proven time and time again that he can handle any project or challenge with a positive attitude and levelheadedness. Josh’s most recent experience as a residential Superintendent drives home how talented he is in maintaining schedules, meeting code compliance, and communicating with clients. Driftwood is proud to have him on the team!

Experience

  • Multiple leadership experiences, including serving as a Crew Leader for Provine Helicopters and overseeing a Vascular Surgery Clinic of a major trauma center while serving in the US Army

  • Experienced in landscape designing and building, including retaining walls, water features, and operating heavy equipment while ensuring complete compliance with safety standards

  • Primary Superintendent for residential developer and builder in the Austin, TX area

Project Engineer

Jake Cooper

Jake is the newest member of the Driftwood team. He is very ambitious and excited to experience the opportunities that commercial construction brings. While in college at Texas State, Jake was a volunteer firefighter, was an associate at Home Depot, and received his Bachelor degree in Business. Throughout any project, Jake believes communication is key, and he is dedicated to ensuring that projects are successfully carried out.

Experience

  • Building relationships with municipalities and contractors

  • Helped write and coordinate an Economic Development Administration Grant application for the funding of an industrial park
